García-Diego International Prize. Thirteenth edition.

The Fundación Juanelo Turriano announces the 13th edition of its García-Diego International Prize, worth 8,000 euros, for research in any of the branches of the history of technology. Up to two runners-up may be chosen, who will receive 2,000 euros apiece.

The prize is open to any individual or group submitting an original, unpublished paper in Spanish.

The deadline for submissions is 29 May 2025.

Pedro Navascués Prize for PhD theses. Second edition.

The deadline for submitting papers for the second Pedro Navascués Prize for PhD theses ends on 20 December 2024.

Topics must be confined to the history of engineering. All branches and eras are eligible. Papers relating to the Foundation’s career will receive preference in scoring.

Pepa Cassinello’s book Eduardo Torroja. El hombre y su legado [Eduardo Torroja. The man and his legacy] will be presented on 28 November at 6:30 PM in the auditorium of the Chartered Institute of Architects of Madrid.

Pepa Cassinello is a member of the Foundation’s Advisory Commission.

The seminar Agustín de Betancourt and his comrades. The scientific and technological adventure of Spanish Enlightenment engineers was held in the assembly hall of the Residencia de Estudiantes on 21 November.

The seminar was presented by César Lanza. Fernando Sáenz Ridruejo and Darina Martykánová, trustees and members of the Advisory Commission of our Foundation, participated as well.

Cream of Science. Pedro Navascués

The Technical University of Madrid (UPM) offers open access to the work of prestigious scientists from its institutional repository through the UPM Digital Archive’s Cream of Science project. Cream of Science aims to support scientific dissemination and the Open Archives Initiative and is also being run in other European countries, such as the Netherlands, England and Germany.

The scientific output of fifteen leading researchers, including Pedro Navascués Palacio, is available.

For Science and Innovation Week, two guided tours of Fundación Juanelo Turriano have been organized for 4 and 5 November, when visitors can learn about the foundation’s work and heritage, especially its collection of historic books.
