Papers are now being admitted for the Turriano ICOHTEC Prize 2024, organised by the International Committee for the History of Technology (ICOHTEC).

The awardee paper will receive a  2500-euro prize funded by Fundación Juanelo Turriano and will be read at the upcoming ICOHTEC symposium. 

The deadline for submitting papers is 30 April 2024.

At 10:30 AM on 6 February at the Technical University of Madrid’s School of Civil Engineering, Santiago Huerta will present a manuscript by Professor Joaquín Monasterio, the Spanish engineer who applied Coulomb’s ideas to decipher the ‘enigma of architecture’.

Fernando Sáenz Ridruejo and Francisco Javier León, Foundation trustees and members of the Foundation’s Advisory Commission, will participate in the presentation.

The International Seminar and Round Table on Historical, Structural and Numerical Analysis of Masonry Constructions is scheduled to be held on 26 February in the School of Civil Engineering’s Torres Quevedo Lecture Hall.

The speakers from the Foundation will include our president, José María Goicolea, full professor at the Technical University of Madrid, and Daniel Crespo, researcher with the Foundation and professor at the Complutense University of Madrid.

Darina Martykánová’s book Los ingenieros en España. El nacimiento de una élite (Engineers in Spain. The birth of an elite) will be presented at the Engineering Institute of Spain (C/General Arrando 38, Madrid) on 8 February at 5:30 PM, followed by a discussion open to the public.

The Ninth National Civil Engineering Congress will be held on 19 and 20 February in the Madrid Chartered Institute of Civil Engineers’ Agustín de Betancourt Auditorium, on the theme Engineering to rethink the world.

Fundación Ingenieros ICAI is launching the first Purposeful Engineering Prize to acknowledge engineers who are working for a fairer, more sustainable world.

The deadline for submitting candidacies is 30 April.
