The García-Diego International Prize awards ceremony was held at Madrid’s Chartered Institute of Civil Engineers on 26 April.

In this ninth edition, first prize went to Víctor Pérez Álvarez for the paper Técnica y fe: el reloj medieval de la catedral de Toledo [Technology and faith: the Medieval clock in Toledo Cathedral].

Two second prizes were also awarded, for:

Documentos cartográficos del Cuerpo de Ingenieros Militares en el siglo XVIII: Introducción a los materiales y a su técnica pictórica [Eighteenth century Corps of Military Engineers maps: introduction to the materials and the pictorial technique] by María Giménez Prades

and

El "yngenio" en palacio: arte y ciencia en la Corte de los Austrias (ca. 1585-1640) [Court ingenuity: Habsburg art and science (ca. 1585-1640)] by Margarita Ana Vázquez Manassero.

The ceremony was presided by José Polimón López, Vice-President of the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineers, who introduced the other speakers, Victoriano Muñoz Cava, Fundación Juanelo Turriano President, and José Antonio González Carrión, Chairman of the panel of judges. The awardees each presented a summary of their studies.

On 11 April Daniel Crespo Delgado, Fundación Juanelo Turriano researcher, participated in a series of conferences commemorating the 260^th anniversary of the birth of Agustín de Betancourt, with a lecture entitled Agustín de Betancourt, Enlightenment civil engineer.

Organised by La Laguna University, this series was brought to a close on 25 April with a lecture by professor Olga Egórova.

The deadline for submitting abstracts for oral communications and posters to the Eleventh International Congress on Molinology is 31 May.

The congress will be held at Palma de Mallorca on 18 to 20 October 2018, under the theme Memory, architecture, engineering and future.

A conference entitled Design for two bascule bridges over the River Nervión at Bilbao will be delivered at the Chartered Institute of Architects of San Sebastián at 7:00 PM on 15 May.

Miguel Rotaeche Galiano will describe the conception and design of Bilbao’s ‘Ayuntamiento’ and ‘Deusto’ drawbridges. The conference will include a slideshow of contemporary photographs.
