Engineer and spy. End of course

The university outreach course Engineer and spy organised by the Spanish Distance University and Fundación Juanelo Turriano under the leadership of Alicia Cámara Muñoz came to an end on 22 October.

The course, attended by 20 students, included a guided tour of the General Military Archives at Segovia.

Fundación Juanelo Turriano will publish digital versions of the lectures.

Turriano ICOHTEC Prize. Call for submissions

Papers may now be submitted for the Turriano ICOHTEC Prize sponsored by Fundación Juanelo Turriano and endowed with 2500 euros.

The awardee paper will be presented at the forthcoming ICOHTEC symposium, to be held at Saint-Étienne, France, from 17 to 21 July 2018.

The deadline for applications is 2 February 2018.

Iribarren. Engineering and the sea, an exhibition

The exhibition Iribarren. Engineering and the sea, organised by the Centre for Historic Studies on Public Works and Urban Planning (CEDEX-CEHOPU), opened at the New Ministries Headquarters in Madrid on 18 October.

The show will be open to the public cost-free through 17 December.

Eduardo Torroja Museum at La Zarzuela Race Course. Conference

A conference on the Eduardo Torroja Museum, inaugurated in October 2016 at La Zarzuela Race Course was held at the Chartered Institute of Architects on 16 October.

The speakers were Pepa Cassinello, museum curator, and Jerónimo Junquera, author of the restoration of the compound.

Enrique Gallego. San Quirce Academy fellow

Historian Enrique Gallego Lázaro has been elected new fellow of the San Quirce Royal Academy of History and Art.

With a degree in history and an MSc. in contemporary Spain in the international context, he is tutorial professor and academic secretary with the Distance University’s (UNED) associated institution at Segovia.

He has been coordinating UNED and Fundación Juanelo Turriano university outreach courses since 2013.
