The fifteenth annual edition of the ALE Heavylift Prize ceremony was held on 26 February at the Hotel Ritz, Madrid, in acknowledgement of the achievements of Spain’s most outstanding civil engineers.

David Fernández-Ordóñez, Fundación Juanelo Turriano trustee, was distinguished with the Juan Luis Lazaga Fiol Prize.

Javier Molina Sánchez, Fundación Juanelo Turriano 2015-2016 doctoral grant awardee, earned the highest distinction for his thesis entitled Patrimonio industrial hidráulico: Paisaje arquitectura y construcción en las presas y centrales hidroeléctricas españolas del siglo XX [hydraulic industrial heritage: landscape and architecture in dam and hydroelectric power plant construction in twentieth-century Spain].

The thesis, supervised by Fernando Vela Cossío, was defended at the Madrid School of Architecture on 4 February.

The deadline for submitting communications for the 10th International Molinology Congress is 15 March 2016.

The congress will be held at Segovia on 20 to 22 May 2016.

Fundación Eduardo Torroja, in conjunction with the Spanish Ministry of Public Works’ Directorate General of Architecture and Building and the Technical University of Madrid, announces an International Ideas Competition on the occasion of the institution of the Eduardo Torroja Museum. The museum will be sited at Madrid’s Zarzuela Race Track, one of Torroja’s most emblematic works.

This competition for a logotype for the Eduardo Torroja Museum is open to technical university (architecture, civil engineering and plastic arts) students, who will opt for a 4000 euro first and a 1000 euro second prize. Proposals must be submitted in digital format.

The deadline for pre-registration is 15 April.

Rules and information

The International Committee for the History of Technology (ICOHTEC) has extended the deadline for submitting papers to its 44th congress to 15 March. The congress will be held at Rio de Janeiro on 23 to 29 June 2017 under the slogan Science, Technology and Medicine, between the Global and the Local.

ALUMNIA, the Asociación de Antiguos Alumnos de la ETSAM [Madrid School of Architecture alumnae association] held a cost-free book raffle for its members on 29 February.

The 101 books raffled were donated by the Madrid School of Architecture, Fundación Eduardo Torroja, Fundación Juanelo Turriano, Mairea (a bookstore) and DaETSAM [Madrid School of Architecture students’ association].
