A symposium on civil engineering in Extremadura and historical hydraulic works in Guadalupe was held on 11 July last under the sponsorship of the Municipality of Guadalupe and the Chartered Institute of Associate Civil Engineers of Extremadura.
David Fernández-Ordóñez, Fundación Juanelo Turriano trustee, delivered a lecture on the town’s splendid fourteenth-century water supply system (the “Arca del Agua”, still in operation) and “Estanque” Dam.
The lecture was followed by a visit to the “Arca del Agua” and the official opening of an exhibition on civil engineering at “Puebla y Villa de Guadalupe” Community Centre. The ceremony was presided by Rafael Pagés Rodriguez, Dean of the Chartered Institute of Associate Civil Engineers of Extremadura, and Felipe Sánchez, Mayor of Guadalupe.
