Keeping the cold inside: the ice well at La Granja Royal Site and the traditional ice industry in the Guadarrama Mountains
Fundación Juanelo Turriano participated in the publication of the book entitled Encerrar el frío. El pozo de nieve de La Granja y el aprovechamiento tradicional de la nieve en el Guadarrama [Keeping the cold inside: the ice well at La Granja Royal Site and the traditional ice industry in the Guadarrama Mountains] .

This book provides a detailed and authoritative explanation of the origin, development and extinction of ice wells. It describes their geography and regulated labour and economics, along with all the links in the supply chain, from snowfall and collection to shipping, conservation, distribution, storage and trade with ice merchants. It reviews the research, archaeological programme and restoration of the well at La Granja, whose recovery enhances the compound comprising this royal site.
