The Fundación Juanelo Turriano library has digitised the first 40 issues (1923-1926) of the journal Ingeniería y Construccion: Revista Iberoamericana, which was published in Madrid until 1936. Any of these issues can now be downloaded in PDF format.

"ARTIFEX", EXHIBITION AT SEGOVIA

 

Artifex

 

Preparations are now underway at Segovia's former mint to host the travelling exhibition "Artifex. Roman engineering in Spain". The exhibition is scheduled to open to the public on 5 October. Organised by CEDEX-CEHOPU around a Fundación Juanelo Turriano project, this showing has visited fourteen Spanish cities since 2006.

RED INTIC, in conjunction with the Residencia de Estudiantes, will hold a round table entitled "Enlightened hydraulics. Water in engineers' thinking, from the Count of Guadalhorce to Juan Benet" at 7:30 PM on 20 September at the Residencia de Estudiantes (auditorium).

The Fundación Rodolfo Benito Samaniego, in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Mechanical Engineers of Madrid, announces the 9th edition of its End of Course Design Competition. A 3 000-euro prize will be awarded to the best scientific-technological submission and 1 500 euros each to two honourable mentions.

INCUNA's (Industrial Archaeology Association) 2012 International Seminar will be held in association with the Second International Conference on Heritage and Regional Development under the title "Industrial heritage and cultural landscapes. Development memoirs".

 

The venue is Gijón in the Spanish province of Asturias and the dates 26 to 30 September.

This book was originally published in 1950. Its author, Henry J. Thunnissen (1890-1978), was a Dutch architect and engineer who, from the outset of his career in 1910-20, opted for vaulted architecture. The Instituto Juan de Herrera has now released Rafael García García's Spanish translation, with a preface by Santiago Huerta and a biographical note by Claudia Thunnissen.

Authored by Bolea Aguarón and Marta Puyol Ibort and published by the Comarca de la Ribera Baja del Ebro in Zaragoza in April 2012, this book describes the area's considerable hydraulic heritage, including mills, boatman's quarters, washing places and bucket wheels.
