Engineering and construction’ constitutes a journey across 2000 years of Spanish and European engineering. Over 40 unique seventeenth to twentieth century scale models of historic architectural and engineering works are on display in the showing, curated by Fundación Juanelo Turriano and open to the public from 7 June to 17 September 2017 at Madrid’s Centro Conde Duque. The models on display are on loan from institutions such as Crown Heritage, Army Museum at Toledo, Hoyo de Manzanares Academy of Engineering, Naval Museum of Madrid, Technical University of Madrid, River Ebro Water Management Board, National Historic Archive, Madrid History Museum, Madrid Underground, Canal de Isabel II and Centre for Historic Studies on Public Works and Urban Planning. The exhibition highlights the formal, aesthetic, artistic, technical and cultural interest of these pieces, some being shown for the first time, as components of a genuine cultural heritage. With this sampling, meticulously selected on the grounds of quality and significance, Fundación Juanelo Turriano aims to restore the important role played by these works in Spanish scientific and technical history.
