His oeuvre received international repute thanks to his innovative system for building corrugated thin shells, which he began to develop after inventing his famous corrugated voussoirs in the early nineteen fifties. He used this system to build his master-work, the Sports Complex at Oviedo (1961-1975), culminating a career begun in the nineteen twenties in Asturias with distinctive works such as the Oviedo water tower or Pola de Siero Square. Fundación Juanelo Turriano, in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineers, paid tribute to this eminent engineer with a monographic exhibition and a book. The aim was to highlight his legacy, a significant portion of whose documentary archives is custodied by the Fundación Juanelo Turriano Library. While the exhibition and the book are intended for the general public, viewers and readers interested in the history of twentieth-century Spanish technology, engineering and architecture will find them especially gratifying.
