Summer course (2011) Courses Summer course organised by the University of Granada's Centro Mediterráneo in conjunction with Fundación Juanelo Turriano and held in Motril, Granada, from 1 to 15 July 2011. Since its earliest evolution, humankind has attempted to harness different sources of energy for its benefit. The types of energy tapped and the technologies used constitute one of the major determinants of humanity’s past and present. The present course aims to provide a comprehensive overview of all the solutions applied to manage and harness energy. The wide spectrum embraced runs from paradigmatic historic examples to ongoing debates, reviewing the social and economic as well as the technological and scientific factors that condition energy use. Particular attention is paid to case studies in Andalusia, regarded as local examples of global scale events.
