Outreach course (2013) Courses University outreach course organised by the National Distance University’s (UNED) Associate Centre in Segovia in conjunction with Fundación Juanelo Turriano, and held in Segovia, from 15 to 17 November 2013. They built fortresses, channelled rivers, invented devices and machines, wrote treatises and travelled, describing new lands, in a century when experience became the key to knowledge and the science needed to govern the world was taught at the Academy of Mathematics founded by King Philip II. The course focuses on the Renaissance, an age when engineers were the professionals most highly esteemed by rulers. The many ingenious individuals who formed their ranks are studied and their works reviewed. Course participants are introduced to the subject by renowned experts in the field through academic classes as well as a visit to Segovia’s Royal Mint Museum.
